Recap: EBC Celebrity Basketball Challenge With French Montana, Wale, Kendrick Lamar and More

Barclays Center in Brooklyn was set on fire Sunday night for the Entertainers Basketball Classic’s Inaugural “EBC America Celebrity Basketball Challenge. With stars and celebrities in the building such as, LL Cool J, Fabolous, Kendrick Lamar, French Montana, Wale, Big Sean, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Maino, Teyana Taylor, Troy Ave, DJ Clue, Angela Yee, DJ Envy and more, this event was sure to be action-packed. EBC took streetball from Rucker Park in Harlem to Brooklyn's Barclays Center; incredible. There were four teams coached by hip-hip artists Fabolous (Team Fabolous), Wale (Team DMV), Kendrick Lamar (Team LA), and French Montana (Team Montana) with special appearances by NBA players Jarrett Jack (Brooklyn Nets), Austin Daye (San Antonio Spurs) and Jordan Hamilton (Houston Rockets).
Hosted by Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club & DJ Clue, EBC America Celebrity Basketball Challenge also featured live performances by Fabolous, Big Sean, Troy Ave, Ooh Way featuring Jadakiss, Bizzy and singer Elle Varner, who performed the national anthem.

With this being the inaugural event, I can definitely see the potential. This year was extremely rocky for us backstage. Artists and players showing up late or not showing up at all. The only one that I know for sure was on time was Big Sean. The game started two hours late, but he made sure to perform at his scheduled time (guess he didn't want to wait around). It was really chaotic backstage to the point where everyone just gave each other looks and we all knew what everyone was thinking.. huh?

All in all, the game went great. The EBC America Celebrity Basketball Challenge 2014 included two semi-final games: French Montana’s Team Montana vs. Kendrick Lamar’s Team LA; and Wale’s Team DMV (DC/ Maryland/ Virginia) vs. Fabolous’ Team Fabolous.  The final two teams Wale’s Team DMV vs. French Montana’s Team Montana squared off in the final game, with Wale’s Team DMV taking home the championship trophy! Shout out to DMV!

Backstage, all media had the chance to participate in a press conference style interview session. We spoke to French Montana and DJ Clue, Jadakiss and Maino, LL Cool J, Fabolous, Elle Varner (who sang the national anthem for us LIVE since we missed it), and Troy Ave.

PS: Troy Ave is the first to rock autographed jerseys. He claimed it. #SWAG
