EVENT RECAP: @iSocialite Presents: #BetweenTheLines with @TyDollaSign

Last Wednesday (9/16), iSocialite teamed up with Warner Music Group for #BetweenTheLines, a songwriting workshop featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Similar to our previous event with Sevyn Streeter, the main goal for these workshops it to allow aspiring industry creatives the opportunity to get insight from industry professionals.

Music producer Dilemma hosted a Q&A session with the West Coast artist, and afterwards, fans and aspiring musicians got the chance to ask for advice and learn more about the rapper's experiences.

During the Q&A, Dolla $ign shared that even though his father was a musician, he did not always get support from his family. He listed Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and Bob Marley as some of his greatest musical influences.

When asked about his approach on writing for artists vs. writing for himself, he told Dilemma that he writes all of his songs for himself, and if another artist hears one of his songs and likes it, they go from there.

Dolla $ign revealed to the crowd that he was behind Chris Brown’s hit single, “Loyal.” The song was originally intended for himself, but eventually, the banger ended up in the hands of Chris Brown. “As soon as I just like- start doing songs for myself, and then somehow somebody heard it…and [Chris] heard it and then they wanted it. That’s the way it works for me. I gotta write everything for myself.” “Loyal” is not the only hit Dolla $ign has written for another artist. He is credited on many hits of the past few years including Trey Songz’s “Fumble” Rihanna’s “FourFiveSeconds”, and Kanye West’s “Only One.”

Even after a huge year in 2014, and a hopeful future, the 30-year-old performer cannot help but express gratitude toward all of his supporters. “Thank you to every DJ that ever played my music. Thank you to every person that ever had a good time dancing to my music.

Special thanks to Dilemma, The Draught Horse, and Warner Music/Atlantic Records for helping us put this event together!
